Cathedral Trip for Team 1/2

The Junior School trip to the Cathedral will go ahead.  The picnic to the gardens is cancelled.  bus helpers are still required.  Walking helpers are not needed but are welcome to join classes at the cathedral.

Musical soiree Wed night, new hall, 7pm.

PTA Xmas picnic is going ahead at this stage..a final decision will e made late afternoon...watch this space.

Holiday programmes

Avonhead Community Trust Oscar Approved Holiday Programme. January 24 – 28, 2011. The programme still has some places for children in years 1-4 (only) in 2011. Swimming programmes have commenced for Yrs 3/4 at Kings in the mornings & 5/6 at Jellie Park in the afternoons.  Please remember your togs!

Athletic rotations for yers 3/4 carry on this afternoon from 1.30pm.

NW Zone Athletics - QE2

The NW Zone Athletics will be held today.  Children leave school at 8.00am and return at approx 3pm.

Team 3-4 Athletics

Team 3-4 athletics are scheduled to start at 9.20am with the 7yr old sprints on the school field.  Other events will begin at 10.00am on Ferrier Park.  Should there be a deterioration in the weather please recheck the blog at a later time.

Team 1-2 Athletics sports

Thursday the 4th of November.
Team 1-2 Athletics sports commence at 9.25am with the 7year olds sprints on the school field.  Other events will run in the same order on Ferrier Park from 10.15am.

Athletics Sports - Day 2

Weather permitting the athletics sports will continue on Tuesday the 26th with Round 1 commencing at 11.30am.  A half hour lunch break will be held at 12.30pm with Round 2 starting at 1.00pm.

Aftershock status

Wednesday, 20 Oct, all well. We coped beautifully yesterday. Here's to a quiet day! And there's a shock as I write!!..

Tuesday aftershock

The school is keeping calm and carrying on after this latest aftershock, today, Tuesday 19 October. All the children are secure and can be collected as normal at 3pm.

The cat that has been lurking around the school has been taken to the SPCA, if you think it might be yours.  Grey, slight tabby marking, short-hair, sweet cat. Its a female.

There is a mature, grey short-hair male cat hanging aound the junior block.  Friendly, doesn't seem stressed. Slight tabby markings. Has been about for a week.

A4art is now scheduled to commence Wednesday 15th & Thursday 16th from 8.30am-5pm.  Also open Friday 17th & Monday 20th from 8.30-3pm.  Closing night and the selling of artworks is now Monday 20th 5-7pm.

Business as Usual!

We are delighted to have a good turnout of children today.  The school has been unaffected by the earthquake.  All the buildings have been inspected and certified safe. Your children are welcome to return from today.

School Closure

The Ministry of Education has closed all schools until Monday the 13th of September.  Lessons will commence at 8.55am on that day.

Avonhead School Closure

The school will be closed on both Monday the 6th and Tuesday the 7th of September.  This is a Minsitry of Education directive.

Due to the earthquake and health and safety reasons Avonhead School is closed tomorrow, Monday the 6th of September.  An assessment will be made for Tuesday - please check the website, the daily blog and the telephone daily notices after 2pm Monday.

The NW Zone Winter Sports Tournament has been postponed until 25 August.

Cybersafety Evening

The Westburn School PTA will be sponsoring this event to actively promote cybersafety with our families on Wednesday 28th July at 7pm in the Westburn School Hall. A representative from Netsafe, the Internet Safety Group will speak to parents about the risks children and young people may face using the Web, social networking and cell phones along with things parents can do to keep their children safe. This will be a valuable opportunity for you to learn about internet and cell phone issues and how to possibly address them.

Clip N Climb Night!


Kidsfirst Kindergarten Avonhead are having a fundraising night at Clip N Climb on the last day of term, Friday 2nd July. Tickets are $10 each for everyone from 3yrs old to adults - this is a discounted price, so come along and have some fun! Sessions start at 5pm, 6pm, or 7pm on the night. The kindy appreciates your support.

Avonhead Community Trust have FIVE spaces (Years 1-4 only) available in their Holiday Programme for the 5 – 9 July. This is a “first come, first served” basis. Preference will be given to those enrolling for the full week. Brochures and booking forms are available from the school office or the Trust office at 102 Avonhead Rd or ph Alison Holmes on 348-6742 for more information. (Leave a clear message if unattended). You will need to return your booking form to the Trust office to await confirmation of your place.

Thank you to all who came to share our exciting new hall opening yesterday.  It went so well and the Prime Minister's presence made it even more special. The hall coped beautifully with the crowds, as it was intended to do!
CTV had a segment on last night which covered the event well.

Activity fees

Thankyou to those who have paid their activity fees.  Payment by the end of today would be appreciated.

Voting in the BOT elections closes noon, Friday, May 7.  Results will be published 14 May.

Lost scooter

A scooter was lost...silver with red handle and lettering 'Razor". Yura Tokuo is written on the handle support as well as the board.

Team 5/6 is off to camp tomorrow...very exciting for them all. Have a safe and wonderful camp.

Apologies to those rung about absence yesterday, when they had already left a message.  Sometimes the answerphone has a glitsch and yesterday was one of those days!  I am sure you would rather we err on the side of caution though..I will continue to call you if we are unsure of the reason for absence.

Sea Week! This week's focus is Fish for the Future!

Rooms 18 & 19 are sailing at Lake Rua today.

Nominations are called for in the Board of Trustee Election round.

Congrats to all those talented swimmers who competed at the zones - we have 5 swimmers going on to the centrals!

I am calling for nominations to fill 3 vacancies on the3 Board of Trustees in the upcoming triennial election round..Nomination forms may be obtained from the office.

We have a master Chinese lantern painter visiting tomorrow..he will work with some of the Chinese pupils.

Monday 1 March.  Some lucky pupils are involved again with the kiwi release in Riccarton Bush, supervised by DOC.  What a great experience.

Welcome Back!

Welcome back to term 1 of the new decade.
Great start so far..everyone is calm and settled in their new classes.  The floor of the new hall has been completed and the walls will start to be constructed tomorrow. You will notice there have been some trees lost..a new planting programme is planned.
Swimming for seniors starts Wed.
Invoices will be sent out from next week.
